Stephen "Steve" Martin Obituary

Stephen "Steve" Martin, 72, of Ottawa, IL, passed away on Easter Sunday April 17, 2022 after a battle with lung cancer.  Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Steve managed this illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife and children, who he adored more than anything in this world.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi, with Rev. Paul Carlson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottawa Funeral Home.

Steve was born April 10, 1950 in Peoria, IL to the late William Martin and the late Helen Howell. On May 23, 1970 he married the love of his life, Debbie Halm at St Francis of Assisi Church in Ottawa, Illinois.  They shared almost 52 wonderful years of marriage where they enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Steve was a retired Electrician out of IBEW 176.  After retirement, Steve enjoyed golfing with friends, rooting for his beloved White Sox, looking for eagles, traveling to national parks, and most importantly cheering on his grandchildren in their various activities.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; two sons, Brad (Cara) Martin of Oswego and Terry (Rachel) Martin of Ottawa; two daughters, Michele (Mike) Smudzinski of LaSalle, Melanie (Rob) Kaloustian of Austin, Texas; and eleven grandchildren, Alyssa, Lauren, and Ben Martin; Leah and Emma Smudzinski; Zach, Madison, Cole, and Kaylee Kaloustian; Maya and Bodie Martin.   Also survived by stepmother, (Mom) Lois Martin of Peoria, his brother James (Judy) Martin of Washington, Illinois; stepbrother, Robert (Cecilia) Martin of Peoria and stepsister Debbie Clendenen of Pekin.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Jim & Norma Halm, and brothers-in-law, Rick and Terry Halm.

Memorials may be directed to American Lung Association in Illinois or to the family.
