Sonita Marie Negley, 73, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Aperion Care in Marseilles.
A celebration of Sonita's life will be held at a later date. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Sonita was born January 23, 1948 in Canton, IL to Clifton and Irene (Tourtillott) Negley. She grew up in Farmington, IL where she also raised her three daughters.
Sonita was funny, creative, kind and generous. She was a true artist who loved painting everything from large landscape farms and sunflowers to illustrating personalized books for her grandchildren, including her signature ladybug cartoons.
Sonita was a spiritual person, and her love for God and family was very strong. She created beautiful spaces wherever she lived. Her love of music, dancing, cooking, gardening, animals and art made Sonita who she was. Her warm, giving spirit and beautiful smile brought joy to many — and for that, she will always be remembered.
Sonita is survived by three daughters, Michelle Taylor of Colchester, IL, Tristann (Bruce) Saari of Montgomery, IL, and Teresa Maccanelli of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren, Maxwell Dailey, Chase Taylor, Jared and Braden Saari, Allison Maccanelli, and Kaiden Kurtz; her great-grandson, Colston Atlas; and her siblings, Ronald Negley, Randy (Kathy) Negley, and Rae Gina (Jane Dille) Negley; and her sister-in-law, Sue Negley.
Sonita was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Irene Negley and her brother, Ralph Negley.
Memorials may be directed to her family; and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.
