Shirley Reardon

Shirley M. Reardon passed peacefully at her home on April 1,2023. 

She was born in Ottawa on June 21, 1922, to Robert and Helen Hodgin. She attended local schools and graduated from St. Xavier's academy in 1940. She attended St. Bernard’s nursing school in Chicago and graduated as a registered nurse from Loyola University. She was immensely proud to be a nurse and practiced in several areas before retiring as the Director of LaSalle County Health Service. 

Shirley was a loving mother who lived by the motto that nothing worthwhile came easy. Mom was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls and Cubs, but her most favorite moments were spent with family and friends in the back yard pool. She always loved a good shopping trip. 

She is survived by a son, Gary (Heather) Reardon; a daughter, Helen Jo Reardon; a granddaughter, Emily (Kevin Zambory) Reardon; as well as many friends who she considered her extended family, especially Joan Wiesbrock and Sue and George Alaimo.

She lived a long and fruitful life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, from 4:00 until 7:00pm, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 5, at 10:00am, at St. Columba Church, with Msgr. Mark Merdian officiating. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
