Robert J. Smuszkiewicz

Robert J. Smuszkiewicz, 80, of Belvidere, IL, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Ottawa Pavilion.

Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation rites. Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Robert was born July 16, 1941, in Harvey, IL, to Joseph and Mary (Tupta) Smuszkiewicz. He married Patricia Jebens on October 10, 1964 in Blue Island, IL. Together they have spent 57 years of marriage.

Robert was a proud member of the United States Air Force, serving from July 1959 to July 1963. He worked as an airplane mechanic for over 50 years at O'Hare Airport for Braniff Airlines until retiring from United Airlines. Robert was a proud supporter of the US military and a member of Amvets. He loved talking about airplanes and enjoyed bowling. In his younger years, Robert played in bowling leagues with his airline crews. He also enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Coon Creek Fishing Club.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his son, Joe (Gail) Smuszkiewicz of Belvidere; two daughters, Karen (Tony) Lotarski of Joliet and Sandy (Rich) Mikel of Elk Grove; seven grandchildren, Samantha (Stephen) Consiglio, Thomas Lotarski, Jenna Smuszkiewicz, Emelyn Smuszkiewicz, Jace Smuszkiewicz, Jessica Mikel, and Alyssa Mikel; his great-granddaughter, Zoey Consiglio; and his brother, Ron (Sylvia) Smuszkiewicz of Blue Island.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vickie Smuszkiewicz.
