Richard F. "Dick" Hart, 83, of Ottawa, formerly of Aurora and Rock Falls, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home.
Private family services will be held at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with military honors. Ottawa Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Dick was born December 28, 1937 in Aurora to William and Sophie (Kirchman) Hart. He married Beverly Fessler on May 26, 1962 in Aurora. Dick was a proud member of the United States military from 1955-1961, serving in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict and then in the Army until April 18, 1961. He retired from the United States Post Office in Aurora after more than 35 years of service.
Dick was an avid 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as past Grand Knight for Rock Falls Council 11874. He was a member of St. Columba Church in Ottawa and a past member of St. Andrew's Church in Rock Falls. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and wood working. He coached baseball in Batavia and was active in scouting and Wood Badge. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Beverly; three children, Kevin (Barb) Hart of Peru, Tim (Jenny) Hart of Plano, and Teresa (Thad) Wendt of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Richard (Stephanie) Hart, Ashley (Joe Lancaster) Hart, Maureen (Tyler) Winders, Abbey Hart, Luke Hart, Ryan Wendt, and Brady Wendt; his great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kyrene, Finley, and one on the way; and his sister, Marie Kittoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Bernie, John, and Bill Hart.
Pallbearers will be Ryan, Brady, and Thad Wendt, Tyler Winders, and Richard Hart.
Memorials may be directed to the American Legion.
