Richard L. Bacon, 86, of Ottawa, formerly of Grand Ridge passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Ottawa Pavilion.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 15 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 am, prior to services, at the church. Family and friends attending will kindly be asked to maintain social distance and wear a face covering. Private burial will be held at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Dick was born April 14, 1935 and raised on the family farm in Grand Ridge. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1953 and attended Eureka College. On June 14, 1958, Dick married the love of his life, Patricia Ursini. Together they spent 54 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on July 18, 2011.
Dick was a lifelong farmer and retired in 2000 as plant manager of PCS Phosphate, after more than 35 years of service. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, visiting the casino, and wintering in Fort Myers Beach, FL. Dick was kind, generous, and humble, but most importantly he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He is survived by his four children, Sue Bacon (Jack Goldberg) of NJ, Laurie (David) Walter of Grand Ridge, Michael Bacon of NC, and Richard (Karla) Bacon of Grand Ridge; nine grandchildren, Katie (Ryan) Krol, Luke Walter, Michael, Alex, Andrew, and Carter Bacon, Samantha, Nicole, and Kimberly Goldberg; three great-grandchildren, Jace, Grant, and Grayson Krol; his sister-in-law, Mary Jo Bowers (Ron Turrisi) of FL; nephew, Jamie (Ashley) Bowers; and great-niece, Zoey Bowers. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his in-laws, Michael (Ella) Ursini.
Pallbearers will be Rick, Mike, Andrew, and Carter Bacon, Ryan Krol, Dave and Luke Walter, Jamie Bowers, and Ron Turrisi. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Cheli, Ron Malooley, Aziz Asphahani, Paul Sweeden, Dr. Celebolo, Bob Chaffin, Dr. Tomas, Bernie Torri, and John Mcroskey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grand Ridge Fire Department, St. Columba Building Fund, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
