Richard Maier Obituary

Richard J. Maier, 77, of Morris, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021 at his home. 

Memorial services will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, May 20 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Pastor Joel Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 pm, prior to services, at the funeral home. Family and friends attending the services will kindly be asked to wear a face covering and maintain social distance. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. 

Dick was born November 11, 1943 in Ottawa to Herbert and Eleanor (Underhill) Maier. He was a member of the United States Air Force, serving from 1962-1966. He worked at Dayton Dairy and Caterpillar before retiring from Commonweath Edison Co after more than 20 years. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Seneca and enjoyed fishing and reading. 

He is survived by two sons, Tony (Barb) Maier of Marseilles and Stephen (Ratima) Maier of Minneapolis, MN; his daughter, Julie (Mike) Curran of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Lisa, Sonya, and Deena Maier, Tyler and Lauren Esselman; and his brother, William (Carolyn) Maier. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Decoursey. 

Memorials may be directed to his family.
