Leo Duane Orvis, 68, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
A celebration of life open house will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 starting at noon at the Ottawa Knights of Columbus Hall; 401 W. Main St., Ottawa, IL 61350. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.
Leo was born August 21, 1954, in Ottawa, IL, to Lawrence and Catherine (Engel) Orvis.
Leo worked for over 30 years in maintenance at Caterpillar in Joliet. He was a Hank Williams Sr. fanatic and was a member of his fan club. When he wasn't working, he could be found in the garage, drinking a beer, and listening to the jukebox with an old western on in the background. He also enjoyed spending time at Illini State Park in Marseilles. He was a great teacher and taught all of his family how to drive. Most recently, he enjoyed doing his "walkabouts" and would walk about 10 miles a day.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lura Orvis Chaney and Casey Orvis Barnes; his grandchildren Cameron Chaney and Austin Barnes; his former wife, Penny Orvis Sheldrake; his siblings, Larry (Betty) Orvis, Ronnie Orvis, Denny Orvis, Daryl Orvis, Linda (Troy) Wise, and Cindy Wise; as well as his grandpets, Petie"The Big One", Piper, Pickles, and Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Steven Markus Chaney; his sister, Patricia Ickes; his brother in law, Joe Wise; his sisters in law, Agnes Orvis and Patty Orvis; and his granddog, Lucky Charms.
