Juan Secundino Martinez

Juan Secundino Martinez, 67, of Streator, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 20, at St. Francis of Assisi, with Rev. Gary Caster officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 19, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Cremation rites will follow.

Juan was born August 9, 1954, in Los Casahuates, Mexico, to Jose Isabel Secundino Santos and Elvira Martinez Estrada. He married Gudelia Hernandez on December 28, 1991 at St Roman Church in Chicago, IL.

Juan was an active participant at St. Francis of Assisi parish Spanish mass chorus, up until the time of his retirement. He had a passion for music that he passed on to his children. He loved to play his accordion everyday and had a small band that on weekends in the summer time his schedule would be filled with parties to go play at.

His children will fondly remember waking up to the sound of an accordion on weekend mornings, especially on their birthdays. 

Family and friends remember him as a kind, caring man who never hesitated to extend a helping hand to those who needed it. His stories, jokes, and words of wisdom will be dearly remembered by his immediate family and anyone to whom he offered them. 

He is survived by his wife, Gudelia Hernandez; his son, Javier Secundino Hernandez; his daughters, Marybel and Elvira Secundino; his sister Tomasa Secundino; and many nieces and nephews.

Juan was preceded in death by his parents Jose Isabel Secundino Santos and Elvira Martinez Estrada; his brothers, Angel and Cirilo Secundino Martinez; and his sister, Juanita Secundino Martinez.
