John "Jack/Cyclone" Thompson Obituary

John "Jack/Cyclone" Thompson, 75, of Wallace Township passed away at his beloved farm on November 6, 2021. 

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 am, Wednesday, November 10 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:30 am, prior to services, also at the church. He will be buried at St. Columba Cemetery. Ottawa Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Jack was born December 3, 1945 in Wallace Township to John and Ann (Mulera) Thompson. He was a 1964 graduate of Marquette High School. On November 4, 1967, he married the love of his life, Dianne (McConnaughhay) and they built their legacy of 54 years together on the Thompson farm. Jack was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Wedron. He was also a member of the Marseilles Local Labor Union 393, and upon his retirement worked part-time  for the Department of Natural Resources.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus where he could be found analyzing and discussing many of his favorite sports teams. He devoted his entire life toward supporting Marquette High School and Catholic education as an alumni, parent, school board member, coach and the usher in the middle of every home basketball game for 50 plus years. He was eventually inducted into the Marquette Hall of Fame. For many of his adult years, Jack coached and mentored many youth of Ottawa with his natural ability to lead and his passion to win. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dianne (McConnaughhay)Thompson; three children, Jeff Thompson of Minnesota, Rob (Tanya) Thompson of Ottawa, and Sue (Ryan) Williams of Princeville; seven grandchildren, Madelyn, Cate, John, Aidan, Mackinnley Thompson and Chase and Jake Williams; his sister, Mary Ann (Ray) Camosy of South Bend, IN. 

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can go to Marquette Academy or the family.
