James O'Kelly Magoonaugh Jr.

James O’Kelly Magoonaugh Jr. died peacefully on July 24th, 2023 at his home.  James (Kelly) was born to James O’Kelly Magoonaugh Sr. and Velma (Bounds) Magoonaugh on December 9, 1938.  He attended St. Francis grade school and Ottawa Township High School.  Kelly owned and operated Magoonaugh’s Mowing Service for 46 years. He served in the Navy as a Seabee from 1961-64 as an E4 Petty Officer, Third Class. 

Kelly was active in St. Patrick Parish, Marquette High School, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post 33, AMVETS, and a charter member of the McDonald's early morning coffee klatch.  He was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. 

Kelly married Penny Crowley on October 9th, 1976.  He was the proud parent of James III, Mary Agnes (Charles V. Leake) and Joseph Patrick (Ali) Magoonaugh, and his Irish son, Major Terry Twinning of Ireland.  Grandfather of Kaitlyn Patricia Magoonaugh and Amelia (Millie) Lynn Magoonaugh.

Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jimmy Jansen, sister Patricia Jansen; brother in laws, Jeremiah, Denis and Joseph Crowley, and Jim Jansen. 

In keeping with Kelly’s wishes, there will be a true Irish wake at his home from 5-8pm, Thursday July 27th. 

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, July 28th at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 11:00am, Fr. Michael Driscoll will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery.
