James H. Ballou, Sr., 94, of Ottawa passed away Monday, December 20, 2021 at Heritage Woods.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, December 29 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, prior to services, at the funeral home. He will be buried in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery, with military honors.
Jim was born April 27, 1927, in Marseilles to William and Luella (Bradley) Ballou. He was a proud member of the United States Navy, serving during WWII. Jim married Dorothy Gamons on May 6, 1950 at St. Mary's Church in Naplate; they spent 55 years together before her passing on August 14, 2005.
Jim retired from the United States Post Office in 1990, after over 30 years of employment. He was a 50 year member of the Postal Union. Jim also worked as a butcher for F & M Market and owned and operated C & M Market in Dwight for several years. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family. He cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Richard) Vicich of Oglesby; four grandchildren, Justin Ballou, Jason (Jamie) Vicich, Derek (Gina) Vicich, and Marissa Vicich; and two great-grandchildren, Katelin and Anna.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, James Jr.; twin daughters in infancy, Louann and Laurie Ann; two brothers; and five sisters.
