Gregory Holsinger, 73, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Gregory was born to William and MaryLynn (Buzzard) Holsinger in Mishawaka, Indiana. Gregory served his country in Vietnam and was a proud veteran. He retired from his work at the Marseilles Lock and Dam. In his free time, Gregory could be found in his garage working on and restoring cars. He enjoyed time with his family and always took time to help others. He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold. Gregory was a proud father to his three daughters. He was a grandpa and a great-grandpa whose kindness, compassion and generosity will be greatly missed. In the last fourteen months of his life, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He never complained and never asked why. He fought with grace and dignity. Ultimately, he succumbed to complications of Covid. Gregory’s legacy of helpfulness and generosity will live on in all of those who knew him.
He is survived by his mother, MaryLynn Holisinger of Ottawa; his brother, Paul Holsinger of El Paso, IL; his sisters, Sherry Holisinger of Ottawa and Jayne Holisnger (Hugh Seidman) of New York; his daughters, Denae (Travis) Love and Leigh Holsinger, both from Ottawa; his grandchildren, Tyce, Turner and Trapper Love, Chloe Sharp, Alexis (Tony) Hope , Destiny (Blake) Kochenburg and Brendon Alden; and his great-grandchildren, Emery, Avianna, Laiken Snell and Mason and Madison Shear.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, William Holsinger, his daughter Bree Holsinger and his sister, Shelly (Pat) Nagle.
