Glenn Serby Obituary

Glenn Edward Serby, 52 of Ottawa, Illinois passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at his home.

Glenn was born October 17, 1968, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Ronald and Arlis (Dougherty) Serby.

Glenn’s family will honor Glenn Edward on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, with the Funeral Service at 1:00pm, at the Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Kipfer officiating.  Visitation will be 11:00am to 1:00pm, prior to the service, at the Ottawa Funeral Home, with the burial following at Saint Columba Cemetery.

Glenn was a competitive football athlete in his youth, and known to all as a loyal, honest, clever, witty, funny, loving, big-hearted man.  Glenn graduated Marquette High School in 1986, where he found his extreme competitiveness and passion for football.  Glenn, an Offensive Tackle, continued to play football, at Illinois Valley Community College in 1987-1989.  Family and friends know that we should have watched Glenn playing in the NFL.  Glenn received multiple Division 1, Big Ten scholarship offers.  But, Glenn’s extraordinary zest for fun at a young age, exceeded the commitment needed to continue playing college football at the next level.

Glenn continued his love of football and all competitive sports with passionate, teaching moments with his Nephews.  Glenn, knowing what it takes to be an athlete at the next level, became the biggest supporter for every sport the Nephews competed in.  Glenn, very proudly, provided each of his Nephews with encouragement and inspiration to be the best they could be, regardless the sport.

Glenn worked with Bilyeu Seamless Gutters for 27 years.  Glenn was an absolute fanatic of recipes, cooking and enjoyed being in nature fishing.  But there is nothing Glenn loved more than sharing laughter and time with his family and friends.

Glenn was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, and belonged to Saint Columba Parish.

Glenn is survived by his Mother; his wife, Mary; daughter, Casie Duncan; a sister, JoAnne Even; a brother, Steven (Melissa) Serby; and his Nieces and Nephews:  Kylie Even, Nicholas Serby, Allen Serby, Jacob Serby, Keegan Even, and Katherine Serby.

Glenn was preceded in death by his Father; his Paternal Grandparents, Glenn and Lomena Serby; and his Maternal Grandparents, Edward and Alice Dougherty.

Glenn’s family has decided, since Glenn is extremely blessed to have the most abundant amount of best friends, that the Pallbearers will be Glenn’s Nieces and Nephews, who dearly love their fun-loving “Uncle Glenn”:  Kylie Even, Nicholas Serby, Allen Serby, Jacob Serby, Keegan Even, and Katherine Serby.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Glenn’s Memorial Fund, c/o Arlis Serby.
