Gerald "Jerry" Wold Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Wold went to be with the Lord on February 12th, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. After 18 years, he has lost his battle with cancer.

Jerry was born on August 1st, 1947 to Janice Sampson Wold and Eldon Wold Sr. He married Deborah Brooks on June 30th, 1973.

He graduated from Ottawa Township High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force to become a Vietnam Veteran. Jerry began his career at Bakelite and went on to be an electrician for IBEW Local Union #176 for 50 years. Jerry retired as an electrician from the Sheridan Correctional Center in 2002. After retirement, since he enjoys being busy, he went back to work for IBEW Local Union #176, and later a driver for NCAT of Ottawa until his health would no longer allow him to continue. Jerry was a member of the Ottawa VFW Post #2470, American Legion Post #33, and Serena Methodist Church.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Deborah, of Ottawa, his son Douglas (Nick Morris) of Minooka, IL, grandson Cody Fleming of Ottawa, and two brothers, Eldon (Bill Schneider) of Surprise, AZ, and Mark (Sue) Wold of Utica, IL.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Eldon (Janice) Wold, a brother, Wayne (Wiener) Wold, and daughter, Tammi Wold.

Family and friends meant everything to Jerry. The saying, “He would give you the shirt of his back”, is the best way to describe Jerry in his life. Always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, even a stranger. Be sure no matter where he would be, any stranger would soon become a friend as he would strike up a conversation with anyone. Jerry had a love for the auto racing scene, be it Nascar or the local stock car races. He enjoyed playing euchre. Rest assured if a euchre tournament was to be held, Jerry would be in attendance. He loved to help in the fields when it came to farming with his father, uncle, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony with military honors will take place on Saturday, February 17, at 10:00am at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.
