Gary "Mort" Eugene Cooper

Gary Eugene "Mort" Cooper, 82, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Aperion Care in Marseilles.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony with military honors will follow at 11:00am with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded to Ottawa Funeral Home. 

Mort was born October 5, 1940, in Plymouth, IL, to Ralph E. and Opal Mae (Wilson) Cooper. 

He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey and later was stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1968. When he returned, he continued working as a barber where he became known as the "Flat Top King". He enjoyed playing sports, including baseball, bowling, golf, softball, and curling. He was a member of the American Legion. 

He is survived by his two sisters, Phyllis (Steve) Stull and Sandra Edwards; and his brother, Ralph Quentin (Barbara) Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Donna Cunico and Patsy Cooper; his brother, Darwin Cooper; and his nephew, Jeremy Wright.
