Doris Virginia Lewis, 88, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023. Doris was born May 18, 1934, to William C. and Mamie Catherine “Babe” (Parr) Johnson in Joliet, IL.
Doris graduated from Ottawa Township High School and married Michael Eugene Lewis in 1952. She worked as a telephone operator and was involved in the Parent Teacher Association while her children were young. In 1969, Doris' best friend, Mable Brue, convinced her to try Bus Driving for the Ottawa school system. She loved her 32 year career. For many summers, she also drove bus for detasseling crews. She was accomplished at sewing and embroidery, creating household projects, clothing and gifts.
Being a friend to many, a walk with Doris could be extremely lengthy as she was frequently stopped by people who knew her. Over the years, Doris enjoyed traveling to various states to visit her brothers, children and grandchildren.
Doris is predeceased by her parents; her step mother, Dorothy Johnson; her husband; her brother, William C. Johnson Jr.; her sister, Joyce Weber and her daughter, Doris Lewis “Dorsi”.
Doris is survived by her brother, Leonard James “Jimmy” (Betty) Johnson; her children, Sheryl Haskins, Joyce (Richard) Koch, Michael Lewis Jr., Debra (Kenneth) Hammer and Robert (Tiffany) Lewis; her grandchildren, Lara Haskins, John (Tammy) Haskins, Jessica (Michael) Klosowski, Patrick (Paulina Arnold) McDermott, Michael K. (Allison) Lewis, Kevin J. (Hope) Lewis, Kristopher C. (Megan) Lewis, Kurtis P. (Aryn) Lewis, Donald (Kelli) Lewis Jr., Nikki Hammer, Nicholas (Rachel) Lewis and McKenzie Lewis; as well as many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Loved by all who knew her.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 10:00am until 1:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. The visitation will conclude with a short time of sharing at 1:00pm.
