Diane Bayer

Diane M. Bayer, 69, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at Pleasant View Lutheran Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, prior to the service, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Masks or face coverings are mandatory.  

Diane was born November 7, 1952, in Ottawa to Francis and Esther (Capello) Meagher. She married Larry Bayer on February 26, 1972 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. 

Diane worked for many years for Kmart, before retiring after a 14 year career from Financial Plus Credit Union. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Junior Women's Club and the Women of the American Legion. Diane loved life and in her free time she loved to cook, bake, and enjoy the occasional screwdriver. Most of all Diane loved her family, and she was affectionately known as "Gaga" to her grandchildren. When the kids were young, she served as boy scout troop leader and was always volunteering as a room mom to chaperone field trips. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandma, and will be missed.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, Angela (Bryan) Collins and Christopher Bayer; her two grandchildren, Morgan and Mason Collins; her siblings, Fran Meagher, Mike (Linda) Meagher, Maureen (Jerry) Farmer, and Trish (Jim) George; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be directed to her family to make a donation in her honor.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Pleasant View for the care they gave to Diane. The staff of the Memory support floor went above and beyond to make her time there as peaceful as possible.
