Woodrow "Woody" Berta, 98, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Ottawa Pavilion. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Patrick's Church, with Rev. Joseph Donton officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 pm, Friday, April 12 at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00PM with Knights of Columbus in attendance. He will be buried in St. Columba Cemetery. Woody was born December 18, 1914, in Norris, Illinois to Charles Sr. and Mary (DeFilippi) Berta. He married Ardelle Crowley February 25, 1941 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. She passed away April 4, 2001. He owned and operated Berta's Tap with his two brothers for 38 years. He was a life long member of St. Patrick's Church, was involved with K of C for 72 years, and was also the bingo caller. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo Cook of Ottawa; one son, Jon "Jack" (Judy "Sam") Berta of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and four grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Berta, and Aimee and Daniel Cook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardelle; two brothers, Charles and Raymond Berta; three sisters, Irene and Norma Berta, and Violet Miller. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Berta, and Aimee and Daniel Cook; and his friends, Larry Baxter, and Gene Donna Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Church, K of C, or donor's choice.
