William E. Newbury

William "Bill", Papa" E. Newbury, 74, of Ottawa, IL, passed away, Friday, September 24, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Philip Halfacre officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 pm, Tuesday, September 28 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Bill was born April 2, 1936, in Ottawa, to William and Harriett (Besse) Newbury. He married Judith Battles on February 15, 1958. He retired from Housing Authority of LaSalle County and worked part time at The Times in Ottawa as an Ad Runner. Bill coached Youth Football, Little League Baseball, Girls City Rec Softball and was a former President of the American Little League. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa and the Illinois Valley Baseball Old Timers Hall of Fame. He was a lifetime Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. The highlight of his life was following his grandchildren with their sporting events and was also a devout fan of Marquette High School. He is survived by his wife Judy ; two sons, Jeffrey (Christine) and Scott (Donna); one daughter, Darsi (Tim Turnipseed), all of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Christian (Hillary), Gabriel, Edward , Erin , Tanner Bland and Kristin (Danny) Wilson; one great granddaughter, Hailey Wilson; four sisters, Nancy (Dennis) Bowen of Peru, Cheri (Bob) Myers of Mosinee, WI, Mary Ann (Leon) Phelps, and Kathy McGill, both of Ottawa; two brothers, Thomas of Ottawa, and James Patrick (Sue) of Pontiac, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and brothers in law, Jerry (Jane) Battles, Dan (Tracy) Battles, and a sister in Law Cheri Link. He was preceded in death by Parents; one sister, Sally Dougherty; and two brother in laws, John Dougherty and Phil Link. Pallbearers will be his two brothers and his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the family in order to establish a Scholarship at Marquette Academy.
