William L. Knoll, 82, of Marseilles, died Wednesday, June 24 at Ottawa Pavilion Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be11:00 Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Ottawa Funeral Home with the Rev. Dustin Anderson and Rev. Nathan Kramer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. William was born July 12, 1926 in Fall River Township to William A. and Minnie (Gebhardt) Knoll. He was educated at Titzel County and Ottawa High School. He married Leola E. Allison January 25, 1950 in Paradise, CA. Following their marriage they established their home in Oroville, CA, where he was employed by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. They returned to the Ottawa and Fall River Twp. in 1957, where they began farming. He was also a feed salesman for the Mormon Feed Co. In 1988 he retired from Warner Lambert Co/Pfizer Inc. after 23 years as a Field Representative. Following retirement he became interested in woodworking. He started his own craft business "Wood-N-U" after he began utilizing his own sawmill and the acres of trees he had on his farm. The craft items he made were from native hardwoods and also featured many Intarsia pieces. He did craft shows for over ten years in Northern Illinois. William was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa, an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marseilles, LaSalle County Rural Youth Group, Illinois Valley Carvers Club, International Wood Collectors Society, Farm Bureau, and a thirty year member of Shoreline Boat Club. William had many years of enjoyment fishing the lakes of northern Michigan, taking friends and family along. He was also involved in a 500 card club for over fifty years. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ann (Randy) Rich of Spooner, WI, Debra (Donald) Baxter of Fall River Twp., and Barbara (Jerry) Miller Arkadelphia, AK; nine grandchildren, John Scifers, Brian (Danielle) Scifers, Dan (Kandi) Scifers, Joe Ott, Jennifer Hover, Delaine and Elysha Baxter, Jerry and Paul Miller; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Heidi Knoll; a son, Larry Knoll; and a sister Shirley Voights. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the family.
