William Grant Farrar, 92, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 17 at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00 with the Knights of Columbus. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with Military Services. Bill was born February 7, 1920, in Decora, Illinois to William and Katie Lee (Austin) Farrar. He married Geraldine Bentson January 9, 1943 in Boston Massachusetts. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and the Hospital Auxiliary. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre as Chief Petty Officer. He worked at Union Carbide as Safety Supervisor. He was the manager of the Ottawa Drum and Bugle Corp. Bill is survived by his wife; two sons, William (Mary) of St. Mary's, Maryland; and Robert Charles (Kimberly) of Rockford; five grandchildren, Angie, Lee, Grant, Katie, and Rachel; seven great grandchildren; and a sister Geraldine Pheifer of Morris. Pallbearers will be William Farrar III, Tim Hatzer, Vito Straynickas, Larry Carstens, Ed Whitney, and Roger Hooper. Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church.
