William John Doherty

William John Doherty, 82, of Ottawa, IL passed away, Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Ottawa Pavilion. Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be two hours prior to services, Saturday at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with Military Services. Bill was born January 1, 1928 in Streator, IL to Isaac and Kathryn (Besse) Doherty. He married Betty Jane Gall of Peru, IL, on February 10, 1950 in Rock Island, IL. Bill was Quarter Master for the Ottawa Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp. He served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947. He worked at Glenn Hicks Television in Marseilles, IL, drove buses for Kline's Buses out of Grand Ridge, and then retired from both, Union Carbide after 31 years and Air Products after 26 years of service. Bill also volunteered at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Jane; two sons, Marty (Sue) of Groveland, IL, and Mike (Roberta) of Maryland; one daughter, Traci Doherty of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Anisa, Liam, and Megan Doherty; one great grandchild, Graesin Doherty; two sisters, Marilyn Kristal of Las Vegas, and Ruth Wallace of Marietta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to the family.
