Willard "Bill" Mengarelli

Willard "Bill" Mengarelli, 71, of Seneca, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home and then from 10:00am until the time of service Saturday. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 17, at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Stanek of Southside Christian Church officiating. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Bill was born February 15, 1952, in Berwyn, IL, to Dominick and Jean (Tomona) Mengarelli. He married Marla Oban on January 5, 1974 in Westmont, IL.

He was a dedicated member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department. He also served on the Edwardsville, KS and Bloomington, IL fire departments, Civil Air Patrol and Ground Rescue, and was a teacher for the Illinois Heart Association. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and taking trips on a houseboat in Tennessee. He was a track and wrestling coach and was an active member of Southside Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marla Mengarelli; his children, Ben Mengarelli, Nicole (Jason) Chisholm, Donny Mengarelli, and Andy (Kayla Williams) Mengarelli; his grandchildren, Nick, Eric, and Kendall Mengarelli, Aiden and Landen Chisholm, and Cecilia Bingheim; his siblings, Bob (Marcia) Mengarelli and Gale Grosrenaud; his brother in law, Rick Buehl; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter in law, Lisa Mengarelli; his sister, Suzie Buehl; and his nephews, Tyler and Jared Oban.
