Vincent J. Grober, 80, of Seneca, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Ottawa Regional Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church in Seneca. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home with Liturgical Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, at a later date. American Legion Kasal Post 457 will fold and present the flag after the service. Vincent was born September 24, 1931 in Alta Vista, Iowa to Jacob and Elizabeth (Ruhoff) Grober. He married Margaret Haugen August 22, 1959 at St. Bernard in Alta Vista, Iowa. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Seneca, the Lions Club and American Legion Kasal Post 457. He served in the Army from 1952-1954. He worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, then superintendent at Seneca High School from 1958-1986. He was the Mayor of Seneca from 1988-1994. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; four daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Freeman of Northbrook, Mary (Joe) Turner of Lincoln, Nebraska, Julie (Chris) Ylo of Munster, Indiana, and JoEllyn Kish of Batavia; three sons, Jeff (Debra) of Oswego, Mike (Rita) of Dike, Iowa, and Tom (Shelley) of Readlyn, Iowa; his grandchildren, Zachary (Francine), Alaina, Samantha, and Rachael Freeman; Vincent and Jessica Grober; Matthew, Joshua, Christopher, and Zachary Grober; Viktor, Abram, Walter, and Leo Turner; Ally, Jill, and Nicholas Ylo; Jacob and Elizabeth Kish; Sierra and Brianna Cook; Grant, Nicholas, and Brok Grober; and one brother, Joseph. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary and Rosella; brother, Andrew; and one grandson, Gabriel Turner. Pallbearers will be his son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Church or the Ronald McDonald House.
