Verdella E. Marik, 74, of Seneca, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Heritage Manor. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Seneca. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am prior to services on Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church followed by a luncheon. Verdella was born November 26, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa, to Vernon and Esther (Ketelsen) Ploog. She married George J. Marik on November 14, 1959. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Women of the ELCA organization, the American Legion Auxiliary and a founding member of the original Irish Booster Club. Verdella loved baking and sewing, and was known for her many quilts for world relief through the church. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Marik; two daughters, Mari (Randal) Petges, Tina (Raymond) Craig; and one son, Shane (Dee) Marik; eight grandchildren, Josh (Stacy) Marik, Michael Craig, Meghan (fiancé Craig McCoy) Petges, Alaina (Zack) Sinnott, Alex Marik, Jacob Petges, Nick Craig, and Nicole Craig; three great-grandchildren, David and Hadley Sinnott, and Presley Marik; one sister, Ellen (Dave) Bielenberg; and two brothers, Randy (Kristi Wormhoudt) Ploog and Rick (Linda) Ploog. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale Ploog; one brother-in-law, Robert Marik; one niece, Jennifer Ploog; three nephews, Dean and Mark Marik and Byrne Bielenberg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Seneca, IL or Heritage Manor, Streator, IL.
