Velma L. Benckendorf

Velma L. Benckendorf, 82, of Decatur, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 1:30-3:00 p.m. Saturday, prior to services at the funeral home. Velma was born January 11, 1928 in Marseilles, IL to Leo and Edna (Applebee) Ott. She married Alan Benckendorf July 23, 1957 in Hernando, MS. He died January 16, 1999. She was an operator for Illinois Bell and retired from K-Mart after 15 years. Velma is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Benckendorf of Edinburg, IL; and one, sister, Shirley Pascal of Bloomington, IL. She is preceded in death by her husband. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
