Velana Huntington

Velana Gerding Huntington, 40, of Iowa City, IA, died, Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at her home. We celebrate her life Saturday, October 30, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Ottawa Funeral Home, 1111 LaSalle Street, Ottawa, IL. Velana Gerding Huntington was born, May 1, 1970, in Ottawa, to John F. Gerding, Jr. and Sandra (Gerding) Lubshina. She married Dan Huntington on March 7, 1990, in St. Louis, MO. She was an adjunct professor of anthropology at several universities in Iowa. She was a member of the American Anthropological Association and the Citizen Band of Potawatomie. Velana is survived by her daughter, Dylan Huntington of Coal Valley, IL; one sister, Ericka (John Smart) Gerding, of Apple Valley, MN; stepfather, Joseph Lubshina, of Ottawa; grandmother, Barbara "Bobbie" Haverstock, of Savannah, GA; and former husband, Dan Huntington, of Coal Valley, IL. She was preceded in death by her father John F. Gerding, Jr., and mother, Sandra Lubshina, who died September 2, 2010. Memorials may be directed to March of Dimes.
