Tyke Burgwald

Tyke Burgwald, 68, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at his home. Funeral Service for Tyke will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park. Tyke was born August 21, 1944 in Ottawa, Illinois, to Russell and Helen (Johnsen) Burgwald. He married Lora Schomas on August 21, 1965 in Ottawa, Illinois. Tyke spent much of his career working in sales. He received All-American honors during his football career at Ottawa High School. He then received a full scholarship to play football at Arizona State University. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and granddogs. He is survived by his wife, Lora; four sons, Erik (Brandi), Jay (Agnes), Shane (Jonica) and Chad; his grandchildren, Emma, Sam, Mariah, Evan and Gabby; and one brother, Craig (Vicky) Burgwald. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kent. Pallbearers will be Erik, Jay, Chad, Shane, Matt, and Ryan Burgwald. Honorary pallbearer will be Craig Burgwald. Memorials may be directed to diabetes research at Massachusetts General Hospital/Faustman Lab in memory of Mr. Harold "Tyke" Burgwald.
