Thomas Newbury

Thomas John Newbury, 78, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Pleasant View Lutheran Home.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 1:00pm at St. Columba Cemetery. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Thomas was born June 10, 1947 in Ottawa, IL to William and Harriett (Besse) Newbury. Like many others from Ottawa, Thomas started his working career at Libby Owens. He ultimately started working for the Department of Child Service with the State of Illinois and retired in 2009. In his free time, he enjoyed sports, especially Notre Dame and following Marquette High School, playing softball, and umpiring at the local ball diamond. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his children, Jason Newbury, Amanda (Brett) Lockas, and Amy (Chad) Gross; his grandchildren, Jack and Brynlee Lockas, and Cameron, Nora, and Reagan Gross; and his siblings, Pat (Sue) Newbury, Kathy McGill, and Cheri (Robert) Myers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Harriett; and his siblings, William Newbury, Sally Dougherty, Nancy Bowen, and Mary Ann Phelps.
