Thomas O'Brien Hartford, 76, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at his home in Western Springs, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be at noon on Monday, January 14 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Corey Krengiel officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am to noon, prior to the services, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with military honors.
Thomas was born October 30, 1942 in Chicago to Brendan and Genevieve (Lyon) Hartford. He married Kathleen Cunningham in Chicago; she passed away May 8, 2006.
Thomas was raised in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago, attended Navity of Our Lord School, graduated from De La Salle High School, attended classes at Lewis University and was proud to serve as a United States Marine and also in the Marine Reserves. Thomas was a respected member of the civil construction industry in Chicago, having the pleasure of working on many high profile projects throughout the city as well as in Florida. At one time, he was a proud member of the Laborers', Operator 's and Plumbers' Unions ( all at the same time) in Chicago; and eventually retired from the industry as a member in good standing with the Local 130 Plumber's Union.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (late Tony) Urias and Kathleen Hartford; four sons, Monroe (Susan Bauer), Christopher (Sara), Rob (Kelly), and Thomas (Kelly); eighteen grandchildren, Rickey (Kristal), Lauren (Andy), Kyle, Megan, Brittany, Sam, Caitlin, Breanne (Jacob), Abby, Alec, Leah, Ben, Will, Kate, Thomas, Jack, Max, and Sophie; five great-grandchildren, Adele, Brady, William, Grace, and Jacob; and his siblings, Joseph (Jean) Hartford and Mary Lyn Hartford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Brendan Hartford.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
