Thomas V. Fleming, 92, of Ottawa, Illinois, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Ottawa Pavilion. Funeral Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Donton officiating. Burial will take place later at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Ottawa Funeral Home with military services. Tom was born October 26, 1919, in Evansville, Indiana, to Elias and Sarah (Southwood) Fleming. He married Alvina Ruth Knittle on April 25, 1950 in Litchfield, Tennessee. He was teamster driver, working for local # 722 as a truck driver, a school bus driver, a charter bus driver, and a cab driver. He served in the United States Coast Guard, 1942-1945 and was a member of American Legion Post # 33. He is survived by his children, Ronald (Jean) Fleming of Coal City, Thomas (Cheryl) Fleming of Orion, Jacklyn (Robert) Fowler of Ottawa, Ruth Defenbaugh of Ottawa; a step son, Jon (Stella) Briel of Cambridge, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Fleming of Streator; his grandchildren, Jodee (Fleming) Hungress, T.J. Fleming, James Fleming, Rhonda (Fowler) Lee, Robert Fowler, Tracy (Fleming) Rhodes, Jae Lynne (Fleming) McClellan, Michele (Briel) Frandin, and Jon Briel; nineteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James Fleming; his brothers, Shirley, Sewall, Kenneth, and Lawrence Fleming; his sisters, Dora Cuniff, Agnes Vernoy, Ann Phelps, and Martha Hartshorn; a granddaughter, Sarah (Fleming) Ketron; his daughter-in-law, Mary Fleming; and his son-in-law, Ronald Defenbaugh.
