Thomas O Camp

November 20, 1955 — October 11, 2021

Ottawa

Tom Camp, 65, transitioned from this earth on October 11 surrounded by his family. He was a warrior until his last breath. There will be a celebration of Tom’s life in the spring, when the weather shifts and we can drag the big speakers on the patio again for one last bash at the Camp’s. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.

Thomas Orton Camp was born November 20,1955 on Mackinac Island where he spent his first years. Raised on the mean streets of Blue Island, Illinois, he met his soulmate, partner in crime, and best friend, Terre there. After many years living in Chicago, they headed southwest to Ottawa where Tom and Terre continued their adventure with their brood, Courtne, Zachary, and Kyle. Their home on the southside stood as a beacon to countless teenagers, weirdos, and other such travelers where music, food, laughter, and love poured generously always.

Tom’s legacy grew over the decades with the addition of his Minions, his beloved grandchildren, Kaybrie, Roland, Noah, Ava, Landon, Sydney and Declan. Being a Papa was one of Tom’s greatest roles, where he excelled in hijinks, life lessons, and fun. Mabel, Poland, Samoa, Squishy, Rosie, Squid, and Doc will carry him with them always, and forever chant “Papa is the Best” just as he taught them.

Tom was a wordsmith, a dreamer, a lover, and thinker. Books and music were one of Tom’s passions, and the Camp family’s concert stubs are many. Tom believed in Love, and his vision of home and family, of generosity and thought, will continue through the foundation he poured into our hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Terre, his three children, Courtne (Jason), Zachary (Tara), Kyle (Natalie), seven grandchildren, and six siblings. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. Tom will be forever missed and never, ever forgotten.
