Theresa Majcina

Theresa Alaimo Majcina, 90, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Ottawa Pavilion. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with prayers starting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 15, at St. Columba Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park. Theresa was born August 21, 1923, in Ottawa, to Charles and Theresa (Verona) Alaimo. She graduated from Ottawa High School, class of 1941. On February 23, 1946, Theresa married the love of her life, Arthur Majcina of Ottawa, and they spent over 65 years together. They had two children, Art Majcina and Dorothy (Majcina) DeBolt. Besides being a full-time wife and mother, Theresa worked for McDonald Merchandising and for the State's Attorney, Gary Peterlin. Throughout her life, Theresa always thought of others - putting their interests before her own. She would remember everyone's birthday and always send an endearing card along with money in an envelope full of stickers. Theresa loved to crochet and always made sure her family and friends had a perfectly-made afghan in any color they wanted. She also made a baby afghan for every family member from nieces and nephews to grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved animals and while wintering in San Diego, she got quite attached to two little poodles who loved her too. Theresa was also an excellent cook and baker and would host great parties with Arthur. She always enjoyed the company of family and friends and entertained her grandchildren with memorable stories including the time she saw President Hoover in Ottawa. She was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed dearly. Theresa is survived by her son, Art Majcina (Jane) of Goodfield; daughter, Dorothy DeBolt (Tom) of San Diego; six grandchildren, Kathy (Brent) Johnson, Michael (Amy) Majcina, Ryan (Sarah) Majcina, Jennifer (Steve) Teubl, Karen DeBolt and Lisa DeBolt; and nine great-grandchildren, Abby, Ben and Jacob, Austin, Connor and Evan, Jack Arthur and Ellie, and Emily, all of whom she loved very much. Theresa is also survived by her loving sister, Anne Alaimo Johnstone of San Diego. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; older brothers, Joe and Russell Alaimo; and older sisters, Clara (Alaimo) McGinnis and Mary (Alaimo) Varney. Pallbearers will be Ryan and Mike Majcina, Brent Johnson, Steve Teubl, Tom DeBolt, and George Alaimo. The family requests that any donations be directed to the St. Columba Church Restoration Fund.
