Theodore Blumenshine

December 5, 1923 — February 22, 2009

Theodore Roy Blumenshine, 85, of Ottawa, died Sunday, Feb. 22, at La Salle County Nursing Home. Memorial services will be at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Ottawa Funeral Home with the Rev. David Alderson officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born Dec. 5, 1923, in Peoria, to Roy and Telva (Roehm) Blumenshine. He married Josephine V. George on Oct. 22, 1946. He worked at Thatcher Glass for 17 years and also was owner and manager of Hi Lo Gas Station in Streator. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Streatorfor more than 50 years and loved his Lord. He enjoyed golf, tennis, motorcycle rides, singing in the church choir, camping and history. He was a man of great integrity. His love was for his family and his family will forever love him because of it. Survivors include his wife, Josephine V. Blumenshine; two daughters, Jo Ann (William) Moreland of Ottawa and Bonnie(Randy) Kiesewetter of Chillicothe; two sons, Roy (Beverly) Blumenshine of Rockford and Ron (Kathy) Blumenshine of Marseilles; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Margaret Tilley. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Linda Blumenshine and a son-in-law, Cory Shilson. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Josh, Bo and Alex Blumenshine; Ben and Jake Moreland and Justin Shilson. Memorials may be directed to the American Parkinson Disease Associationor to the family. Ted lived life for his family and will be missed.
