Shirley Mcdonnell

Shirley Ann McDonnell, 89, of Ottawa passed away Sunday morning, August 4, 2013, at Pleasant View Lutheran Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 4:00. She will be buried in St. Columba Cemetery. Shirley was born April 21, 1924, in Utica, Illinois to Leo and Angela (O'Connor) Aubry. She married Robert Joseph McDonnell on December 2, 1944, at St. Mary's Church in Utica. He passed away July 1, 1998. She was a member of St. Columba Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Shirley loved to dance, tell stories, play Euchre, and spend time laughing with her family and friends. She was high-spirited, funny and a downright character throughout her life. Shirley was devoted to her faith. Her favorite prayer was the Memorare. She is survived by her two daughters, Joanne (Bill) Callahan, of Wauwatosa, WI; Susan (Michael) Serena, of Shorewood, IL, and one son, Robert McDonnell, of Chandler, AZ; ten grandchildren, Brian, Amy, Molly, Kate, Megan, Bridget, Kevin, Aubrey, Ashley and Michael; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rita (Jim) Hedrick, of Ottawa. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; one sister, Lucille Harmon; and one brother, Justin Aubry. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the donor's choice.
