Sheila Hughes

September 21, 1950 — June 8, 2016

Sheila Hughes, 65, of Ottawa passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at her home.

Beloved wife of Michael; dearest mother of Emily (Ryan) Anderson, Molly (Terry) Bentz, and Maggie (fiancé John Higgins) Hughes; loving grandmother of seven grandchildren, Hallie Nelson, Charlotte Anderson, Logan Nelson, Ryan Anderson, Paxson Bentz, Maddie Bentz, and Macy Bentz; and dear sister of Jerriann Rosenak, Sandy (Roger "Buck") Harbeck, and Randy Graham. She was preceded in death by her parents Jeremiah and Eileen (Neidetcher) Graham.

Sheila was born September 21, 1950 in Ottawa, Illinois, a community she called “home” throughout her life. She married Michael Hughes on October 16, 1971 in St. Columba Church. You could always find Sheila in the kitchen either cooking for the many parties and sleepovers she hosted for her family, or baking cakes for celebrations. She so enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially being active in the lives of her grandchildren, who she nurtured and encouraged. She cherished most of all being “mom” or “grandma.” She was also a proud member of the Dayton Women's Club, and she enjoyed working in her flower garden, getting her nails done with the girls, or catching up on the lives of her friends. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Columba Church with Rev. Corey Krengiel officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Armstrong, Josh Hendrix, Derek Hiland, Peter Laska, Austin Shafer, Mark Shafer, Eric Werden, Adam Williams, and Jake Wilson.

Memorials may be directed to Marquette Academy.
