Scott David Ruhland, 49, of Chicago, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. Beloved husband and best friend of Togiwaty (Togi), treasured son of Bob and Joyce (Alms), cherished brother to Lisa, Kurt (Kate), and the late Alison (1971), much loved uncle to Joel, Leah, Abigail and Miriam, nephew and cousin to a large extended family, and a dear friend to many around the world. Dearest Son in Law to Albines and Sabar and Brother in Law to Agustina and Singgapur. A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 2, at the Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Private burial will be at a later date in St. Columba Cemetery. After starting his career as a city planner in the late 1990's in California, Scott put his career on hold in 2015, to see the world. A trip originally scheduled for one year became three years of travel in South America, Southeast Asia, and considerable time in Indonesia. He also indulged his passion for mountain climbing, snorkeling, diving and beach sunsets, taking him from sea level to summits around the world. The highlight of his travels was meeting his future wife Togi in Bali. He married Togi in a beautiful tropical wedding in 2018. They returned to the United States in 2019 where he resumed his career in Chicago as an urban planner. He was also happy to renew his loyalty to the Chicago Cubs.

Scott graduated from Marquette High School and Southern Illinois University and continued his education in California recieiving a Masters in Urban Planning from San Jose State University.

Scott was an avid cook, food and craft beer connoisseur. Friends remember some of his signature dishes. He and Togi enjoyed exploring new restaurants and sharing their finds with others, traveling and exploring beaches. Scott was preceded in death by his grandmother, Marie (Bieschke) Ruhland (2019). Honorary pallbearers are Joel Ruhland, Terry Ruhland, Alan Ruhland, Scott Clinch, Eric Fey and Michael McDaniel Memorials may be directed to the family.
