Sandra Einhaus

July 15, 1941 — January 26, 2025

Ottawa

With a heavy heart and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sandra Einhaus, who departed this world on January 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Her legacy is woven into the very fabric of our family, a testament to her unwavering love and devotion.

Sandra was born July 15, 1941 in Ottawa, IL, the daughter of the late Lester and Amy (Schafer) Neilsen. She married Robert Einhaus on November 7, 1959 at St. Francis Church in Ottawa.

Sandra was the cherished mother of seven: Terry Einhaus, Lester (Tina) Einhaus , Mike (Lori) Einhaus , Theresa Poundstone , Duane Einhaus, Tony Einhaus , and Debbie (Ken) Knoll. She often told us that she would have had even more than seven children if she could—she took immense pride in raising her babies and nurturing each one with love.

As a grandmother, Sandra's heart swelled with joy, nurturing 21 grandchildren: Cassandra, Austin, Tristina, Jayonah, and Chase Einhaus and Katy Durbin ; Chad Hackler, Trenton and Alana Einhaus; Marie, Ryan, Blake, and Adam Poundstone; Rachel, Dean, and Shelby Einhaus; and Payton, Cooper, Bella, and Carson Knoll. Each announcement of a new grandchild lit her face with joy, a reflection of her boundless love.

Her blessings continued with seven great-grandchildren: Levi, Livy, Leo, Salem, Luke, Roman, and Huntlee, with three additional great-grandchildren expected in 2025. Every moment spent with them was a treasure, and she rejoiced in the expanding family that brought her so much happiness. She was also the cherished sister to Brian (Diane) Neilsen, Duane Neilsen, and Patricia (Don) Mathieu.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Amy; her beloved husband, Robert Einhaus; her sons, Duane and Terry; her grandson, Ryan Poundstone; and her siblings, Duane Neilsen and Patricia (Don) Mathieu. Each loss etched a deeper mark on her heart; yet through it all, her spirit remained resilient and full of love. We find comfort knowing she is now reunited with Papa, embracing him once again in eternal peace.

Known for her incredible kindness and thoughtfulness, Sandra had a unique gift for making everyone feel special. She enjoyed party planning and took great joy in helping decorate for events, ensuring that each gathering was memorable and filled with warmth. She was our family’s “Puzzle Queen,” completing over 40 beautifully crafted puzzles that now hang as cherished memories on our walls. Each piece she assembled reflected her dedication to family and the joy she found in connecting with us.

Her creative mind brought beauty to our lives, from her exceptional decorating skills to the warmth she infused into every gathering. Her home was beautifully decorated with numerous cardinals. Above all, her steadfast devotion to God guided her actions and inspired those around her. She taught us the importance of faith, love, and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. She was a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottawa.

As we navigate this immense loss, we find solace in knowing that her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. Her laughter, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but we carry her memory with us, forever grateful for the time we had together.

Sandra Einhaus was more than a mother; she was the heart of our family, a beacon of light, and a source of unwavering strength. Her love will forever resonate in our hearts.
