Sam P. Creed

Sam P. Creed, 87, of Ottawa, Illinois, died Sunday, March 17, 2013, at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Funeral service for Sam will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Oakwood Memorial Park with Military Services. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, prior to service, at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Sam was born October 6, 1925, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Peter and Frances (McDermott) Creed. He married Mary Schelick Thomas on June 2, 1979 at Deer Park. She died May 27, 2003. Sam served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He retired from LOF, and was a member of American Legion. He is survived by his son-in law, Duane Coleman of Grand Ridge; three grandchildren, Susan Lyons, Lisa Thomas, and Amy Thomas; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a step daughter, Florence Coleman; a stepson, Jerald Thomas; three sisters, Rachel Creed, Ann Chapman, and Mildred Creed; four brothers, Lincoln, John, Don, and Matthew Creed. Memorials may be directed to the American Legion.
