Ruth A. Lakan

Ruth Lakan, 84, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, September 19, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with Rev. Tony Favlo officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Ottawa Funeral Home and Crematory, prayers at 3:45 with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Ruth was born January 13, 1930 in Ottawa, Illinois to Nicholas and Hazel (Barr) Dougherty. She married Jacob Lakan May 21, 1949 at St. Patrick Church in Ottawa he died January 3, 1991. Ruth was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Ruth loved china painting and decorating her home and yard for all seasons. She dedicated her life to her family and was deeply rooted in her faith. She is survived by one Daughter, Mary Humer of Tolono, IL.; two sons, Michael "Jake" (Diane) Lakan and Patrick (Jeri) Lakan, both of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Chris and John Humer, Jacob, Ben and Michelle Lakan, and Haley Wolfe; her daughter-in-law Pam, Lakan; and one brother, Nicholas (Pat) Dougherty of Ottawa. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Lakan; one son, Thomas Lakan; her parent's; and one brother, Daniel Dougherty. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Church.
