Ruth Marie Elzer, 44, of Mason, Ohio lost her battle with Breast Cancer on March 25th at the Hospice of Cincinatti. Visitation will be Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 - 11:30 AM at Ottawa Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be following the visitation at 11:30 AM with Msgr. Jerome Ham officiating. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Ruth was born October 28, 1966 in Ottawa, Illinois to Frank and Ann (Sagi) Elzer. She was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School. Ruth was highly educated with a RN from St. Francis School of Nursing (Peoria), as well as a BS (Nursing) and MS (Cardiovascular Clinical Care) from Governor's State University. Ruth was a positive force for improved healthcare delivery services at hospitals throughout the United States, first as a staff member to The Joint Commission, and later as a consultant whose goal was preparing institutions to be successful and resurrecting those who had been denied operating credentials. Ruth was a member to many health organizations, a published author, and supported many charitable organizations. She is survived by her parents; two sisters, Christine (Ronald) McCormick of Aurora; Melissa (Daniel) Swanson of Roanoke, IN; four nieces and nephews that she loved very much, Bethany and Aaron McCormick, Amber and Kaila Swanson; one uncle, Joe Sagi of Ottawa; and one aunt, Ethel Bryant of Charlotte, NC. She is preceded in death by grandparents George and Ann Elzer, John and Veronika Sagi. Pallbearers will Bob Hylin, Aaron McCormick, Ronald McCormick, John Sagi, Steven Sampson, and Dan Swanson. Memorials may be directed to Ruth Elzer Memorial Fund, Ronald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati. CINCINNATI, OH It is with deepest regret that Compass Clinical Consulting announces the passing of our esteemed long-term colleague Ruth Marie Elzer on March 25th at the Hospice of Blue Ash, Cincinnati, of cancer. Ms. Elzer was a positive force for improved healthcare delivery services at hospitals throughout the United Statesfirst as a staff member of the precursor to The Joint Commission (the main accrediting body for U.S. hospitals), serving as product development manager and faculty member, building the elements to be used in surveys of institutions for safe services delivery, and later as a consultant whose goal was preparing institutions to be successful in meeting the requirements and resurrecting those who had been denied operating credentials due to insufficiencies discovered by reviewers. Ruth, at 44 years, an RN with an MS in Cardiovascular Clinical Care, had attained national notoriety for her careful compliance review work. She earned multiple certifications related to quality care. The Ottawa, Illinois, native earned her university degrees from Governors State University, and moved to Mason, Ohio, to assume a practice line leadership role as a senior consultant in 2000. She was a content reviewer for Joint Commission sponsored books, video products and other publications, and gave public presentations at various national nursing meetings. Ruth is survived by her parents, Frank and Ann, of Joliet IL, two sisters, Christine McCormick and her children, Bethany and Aaron, of Aurora IL, and Melissa Swanson and her children, Amber and Kaila, of Roanoke IN, and an uncle, Joe Sagi, of Ottawa IL, and and aunt, Ethel Bryant, of Charlotte NC. Elzer can be honored by donations to her favorite charity.
