Rudy R. Alvarado, 87, of Ottawa passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at LaSalle Veterans Home. Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00 am May 5, 2015 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday prior to services at Ottawa Funeral Home. He will be buried in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery with military honors. Rudy was born February 9, 1928 in Ottawa, Illinois to John and Rose (Campos) Alvarado. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He received the Army of Occupation Medal; the WWII victory Medal. During his military career he worked as a fuel induction mechanic 926 where he was a carbine expert and he worked as the 433rd Engineer Water Supply. He married Patricia Midnight August 16, 1951; she passed away May 7, 2005. He worked at Libby Owens Ford for 31 years in the booking department. After he retired from LOF he was an independent truck driver for 20 years. He played in the band Tempos as a bass guitarist for many years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and was a commander and a past member of the American Legion. Rudy was an avid White Sox fan, enjoyed fishing trips with his family, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by three children, Sheila (Dave) Parrott, Patty Alvarado, and Randy (Terri) Alvarado; six grandchildren, Shannon (Erik) Rapp, Brandy (Dave) Antle, Monica (Dave) Lowe, Erik (Marivic) Williamson, Nick Ewing, and Andrea (Pete Vercolio) Alvarado; five step grandchildren, Dave, Patrick, and Jessica Sharpe, Kassi and Lainey Parrott; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ruben Alvarado; and two sisters, Sally (Larry) Pruitt and Tina Alvarado. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Patricia; one son, Duane Alvarado; two brothers, John and Rich Alvarado; and one sister, Molly Moreno. Pallbearers will be his family members. Memorials may be directed to his family.
