Roshell Bernice Bottoms, 87, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
Bernice was born February 17, 1938, in Marseilles, IL, to Walter and Lettie (Elliott) Gabehart. She married Bobby Bottoms on November 25, 1960 in Grand Ridge.
Bernice worked for over 25 years as a waitress at the Green Mill Restaurant. She was an excellent cook and was known for making the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as well as her hot beef. She enjoyed going to Bingo and in her younger years, traveling with her siblings in their motor home. More than anything though, her family was her pride and joy. She loved each and every one of them dearly and was affectionately known to them as Bird, Granny Bird, and GGB, Great Granny Bird.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Bottoms; her children, Bart (Lisa) Bottoms and Stacie Adair; her grandchildren, Billie Jo (Steve) Hanrahan, Chad Scamen, Brandie Bryan, Joseph Bottoms PhD, Nicholas (Tasha) Bottoms, Ashley (Ben) Rosborough, and Blake (Samantha) Adair; her step grandchildren, Shannon Radic and Kayla (Ben) Draves; as well as 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lettie; her son Doug Scamen; her daughter, Terri Radic; her son in law, Randall Adair; 3 sisters and 1 brother.
