Ronald Saager

Ronald Saager, 81, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family .

Funeral services will be at 6 pm on Wednesday, April 14, at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruno Byomuhangi officiating. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 6 pm, prior to services, at the funeral home.

Ron was born June 27, 1939, in Ottawa to Wilbur and Neila (Belrose) Saager. He married Sharon Loeffler on October 10, 1959 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ottawa.

Ron had many jobs over his lifetime starting out at Dayton Dairy, L.O.F., Union Carbide, JRC Service Station, Mayou Roofing and retiring from A.S.I. Security. He volunteered for many organizations including: Naplate Sheriff Deputy and Fire Dept and for Relay for Life (Special Olympics).  Ron was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, a 47-year member of the Ottawa Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Ottawa River Rescue Squad. Ron loved to fish, camp, and spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Kathy Saager and Kristi (Bradley) Sliker; and five grandchildren, Matt, Morgan, Sarah-Marie, Megan and Gracie. He was preceded in death by his son, Dean; his parents; and three sisters, Janet, Jodene, and Jvonne.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Morgan, Matthew, and Sarah-Marie; and his son-in-law, Bradley Sliker.
