Ronald Elens, 79, of Seneca, IL, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at St. Patrick's Church of Seneca with Father Ray Guthrie officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. Patrick's Church of Seneca. He will be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. Ronald was born December 3, 1934 in Joliet, Illinois to Peter and Velma (Patrick) Elens. He married Mary Ann Maloney June 8, 1957 in St. Patrick's Church in Joliet. He served in the United States Army between 1955 and 1957. His first career was as a tool and die maker. Then, he established Pizza by Marchelloni's in Seneca in 1991 and operated it for 7 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Seneca, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and past member of Illinois River Chamber of Commerce. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and was their number one fan. He was very excited about becoming a great-grandpa. Ron cherished time spent with family and really enjoyed a good joke. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; four children, Joseph (Kay) Elens of Gardner, Kathy (Art) Scheuber of Delafield, WI, Charlene (Robert) Bannon of Crest Hill, and Susan (John) Schwartz of Sycamore; ten grandchildren, Sean and Brendan Elens, Mark (Lea) Scheuber, Reenie (Dan) Fluyeras, Mike Scheuber, John, Patrick, and Matthew Bannon, and Katie and Kevin Schwartz; one brother, Wayne (Marilyn) Elens; and numerous nephews and a niece. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Elens; and one grandson, Christopher Bannon. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Sean and Brendan Elens, Mark Scheuber, Reenie Fluyeras, Mike Scheuber, John, Patrick, and Matthew Bannon, and Katie and Kevin Schwartz Memorials may be directed to Seneca Fire Department and St. Patrick's Church in Seneca.
