Robert "Jim" Andrew McClevey Jr., 101, of Ottawa passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 6 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Hadler officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday, May 5 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Jim was born April 26, 1910 in Austin, Illinois to Robert Andrew and Ida (Marriott) McClevey. He attended OW Holmes Grade School, Oak Park High School, and the Colorado School of Mines where he obtained his Degree in Engineering of Mines in 1932. He married Edith Eleanor Eldredge on August 12, 1961 at the First Congregational Church in Ottawa. She passed away August 30, 1999. He was a Mining Engineer for 41 years at Ottawa Silica in Ottawa Illinois until he retired in 1975. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Ottawa, S.A.E. Fraternity, Colorado School of Mines Alumni Association, Crow Canyon Archaeological Group President's Council Member, Cortez, CO, LaSalle County Historical Society, Reddick Mansion Association, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, Ottawa Boat Club, Masonic Bodies, Blue Lodge, Knight Templar, Consistory, Shrine-Mohammed Temple, Genealogy Guild of LaSalle County, American Legion, VFW, and Society of Mining Engineers. He served proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was a philanthropist who loved his family and his community. He is survived by his nieces, Alison Gonzalez of St. Louis, Barbara Dix of Brookfield CT and Cynthia Cox of St. Charles, MO and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bettice Moore and Helen McClevey; and two brothers, Arthur Marriott and William Henry McClevey.
