Robert M. “Bob” Mays, 64, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in Ottawa, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 20, 1961 to Robert and Carolyn Mays in Streator. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He built his life around family, hard work, and the simple joys of spending time with those he loved most.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shari; his children, Bo (Shannon) Mays of Rock Falls, Sasha (Matt) Lucas of Ottawa, and Lee (Sarah) Mays of South Bend, Indiana; five cherished grandsons, Caleb, Jackson, Bryce, Lucas, and Caden; his sister, Kim (Gary) McGeorge of Streator; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil and Dea Keith of Ottawa, Nancy and the late John Keith of Streator, and Linda Keith and Gene Handzo of Streator; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and other loved ones who now welcome him home.
Bob took great joy in attending his grandsons’ sporting events and was their biggest fan. He loved family vacations—especially at the beach—watching sunsets, and spending quiet days at home with his beloved wife and dogs. He most recently attended Crossbridge Church in Ottawa and formerly Central Church of Christ in Streator.
A visitation to honor Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ottawa Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held the following day, Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at Ottawa Funeral Home.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
