Robert Wayne Johnson, 75, of Newport, Washington, formerly of Ottawa, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Newport Hospital Long Term Care in Newport, Washington. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the First Congregational Church in Ottawa with Rev. Kim Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, at Ottawa Funeral Home and one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa with Military services. Robert was born November 27, 1937, in Ottawa, Illinois, to George and Lillian (Crear) Johnson. He was an All-State guard on the football team at Ottawa High School. He then joined the Marines. After leaving the Marine Corp, he returned home and married Kathleen Rue Collins at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He retired after working at the Swift Meat Packing facilities in Rochelle and St. Charles. He went out to Washington State to be near his children in 2010. He followed Ottawa sports and Chicago teams closely. Bob enjoyed fishing the Hennepin Canal with his children. Robert is survived by two sons, Eric of Newport, Washington and Timothy (Shelley) Johnson of Stanwood, Washington; one daughter, Rebecca (Tim) Springer of Gig Harbor, Washington; five grandchildren, Grace, Taylor and Jacey Johnson, and Wyatt and Cecilia Springer; four brothers, George (Darlene) Johnson of Ottawa, Dick (Sharon) Johnson of Utica, Jimmy (Karen) of Henry, Kenny (Mary) of Chillicothe; one sister, Janet Newell of Ottawa; and his former wife, Kathleen Johnson-Terech of Kelso, Washington. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lily; his father, George, one sister, Edith Hastings; and one brother, Gary Johnson. Pallbearers will be Stevie Newell, Tim, Eric, Jimmy, Kenny and Jayme Johnson.
