Phyllis Ann McConville, 86, of Ottawa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Ottawa Pavilion. Visitation will be on Tuesday March 8 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ottawa Funeral Home, followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will follow the mass at St. Columba Cemetery. The family requests that those attending the visitation and funeral wear a mask or face covering. Phyllis was born September 4, 1935 in Mendota to William and Emma (Gretencord) Corcoran. She grew up on the family farm in Ophir Township with her sister Janet (Corcoran) Stiles. Phyllis attended the McConville one-room schoolhouse near her home, Mendota High School, and later went on Illinois State University. She married Dale McConville in 1956 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Earlville. They had five children; four daughters and one son. Phyllis loved being a mom and grandma, and the activities of her children and grandchildren always came first. Her Catholic faith was of the upmost importance; fittingly she passed on a holy day, Ash Wednesday. Phyllis was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of America, volunteered at St. Columba, and worked with Marquette May Merriment while raising her children. After her children were grown, Phyllis was employed at the LaSalle County Clerk’s office for 18 years, retiring in 2010. Phyllis proudly celebrated her Irish heritage at every opportunity. She enjoyed traveling the country to her favorite historic cities, shopping with her girls, talking politics, rooting on her beloved Chicago Cubs, spending time with her family, playing cards and visiting with her many cherished friends. Through the way she lived, she taught her family the meaning of unconditional love and the beauty of friendship. She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Brightfield of Oak Park, Pamela (Bradley) Goldman of Ottawa, Michele (Louis) Goetsch of Ottawa, Kimberly (Michael) Tobak of Naperville, her son Sean McConville of Fruita, CO; eight grandchildren, Evan Brightfield, Luke Brightfield, Alyssa Goldman, Jordan Goldman, Kiley Goetsch (Chelsea), Collin Goetsch (Ashley), Alec Goetsch and Elliana Tobak, two great-grandchildren; Sydney Eick and Nolan Goetsch, as well as many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sister Janet (Corcoran) Stiles; and son-in-law Eric Brightfield. Pallbearers will be her beloved grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the family. Her family extends their heartfelt appreciation to all of those at the Ottawa Pavilion who touched her life, providing loving care and friendship during her time there.
